Challenge: Caregivers don’t want their girls talking publicly about gender-based violence, especially when it might expose or implicate their family
Solution: This is not a simple challenge to address. The fear of shaming or dismantling the family unit keeps many survivors and relatives silent. Include caregivers in trainings, workshops and discussions when possible. Offer support services to caregivers who might be survivors of GBV themselves. Consider doing home visits if caregivers are reluctant to allow girls to participate. Consider caregivers opinion and reiterate that the benefits of teaching girls about GBV are far-reaching and immeasurable.
