On some occasions it may be necessary to monitor the girls’ activities. One of our partners reported that some girls were not participating in the sporting programmes. They were merely loitering and time-wasting. Therefore it is important to know what the girls are doing. Consider a more comprehensive approach when addressing this issue.

Challenge: Having girls travel to sport programme can make them vulnerable to gender-based violence (harassment, kidnapping, rape)

Solution: Identify where girls become vulnerable and protect them in those times/places. For example, mandate that girls travel together in groups to and from training. Don’t hold training sessions at times when girls would have to walk home in the dark. Consider location of training and where potential threats might be. When travelling through areas where abuse might occur, provide supervision and/or motorized transportation.
